Post subject: Rat/Mouse Allergy
Archived from groups: alt>pets>rodents (more info?)

All,

I posted this to an allegy newsgroup and got no replies.
I was hoping someone here might have some more info.
TIA.

I recently discovered that I am allergic to mice and rats.
I also learned that my apartment had mice living above
my bedroom windows and have since moved to a new
place. I need to clean my furniture and other items in
my new apartment, what kind of soap or cleaner is best
for the job? As I understand it, the allergy is to the proteins
in the rodent urine and feces. Will something like PineSol
actually break the proteins down in the dust or will it just
move it around? Is there some other product that will
actually destroy the proteins? What is the most effective
way to get rid of the remaining allergens? I have already
thrown away many items that seem impossible to clean
(such as my mattress).

Regards,
David
